If you are going to have an open house, it’s important to capture the interest of any visitors in a positive way, as opposed to turning them off the property. Spend a day preparing your home for the open house and it could prove to be a good investment of time. See here is a list of 15 things you should consider doing before opening your doors to potential buyers.
- Eliminate half of your personal belongings as clutter can cost a sale. Rent a storage system or portable pod for extraneous furniture pieces or knickknacks. Another idea is to ask a friend if you can borrow some area in his or her garage.
- Use “home wash” (pipe attachment readily available in your home improvement shops) to clean the outside of your house.
- Clean rain gutters along with outside windows and screens.
- Ensure the front door is inviting. Paint the door if needed. Also, change any out-of-date outdoor lighting components.
- Buy brand new house numbers if the old ones are dated or faded. Be sure buyers can see the brand-new ones from the curb.
- Buy a new welcome mat.
- Organize all closets and drawers. Purchasers may look there.
- Make any required repair work so that buyers do not need to include that to their list of expenses.
- Reorganize furnishings to make rooms appear as big as possible.
- Make every surface area shine, from ceiling fans to baseboards. Do not forget interior windows, mirrors and floorings.
